Piazza della Rena
Piazza della Rena arose with the construction of the Kallmünz residences to the east and the "Hohensaal" to the south at the end of the 16th century, occupying a deserted and sandy space located outside the ancient city walls. The "Esplanade" hotel, formerly the "Hotel Arciduca Giovanni" and a post station until 1913, acquired its current appearance in 1898. In 1903 there was a further renovation, with the creation of a flowerbed in the center of the square. Thirty years later the front part was paved. Today the hotel is owned by the Province and is home to public offices and shops. Starting in 2007, construction work began on the underground garage under the square and the surface was modified again. Opposite are the church of the Sacred Heart and the Institute of the English Ladies. Piazza della Rena is connected to Piazza Duomo by Via Leonardo da Vinci.
